About the Bridge Program
The Douglas County Bridge Program is for young adults 18-21 years of age. Our mission for our students is to Strive for Independence.
Priority Learning Outcomes
Bridge prepares young adults with developmental disabilities for life after high school in the following areas:
Daily Living
- Cooking, nutrition, cleaning, hygiene
- Time management for a variety of settings & purposes: the home, employment, social activities, and recreation & leisure
- Budgeting, the value & the purpose of money
Employability
- Targets executive function skills: planning, executing, and completion, time management of job tasks, creating work-related relationships with customers, co-workers, and supervisors, and developing healthy relationships in the workplace
Community Access
- Building knowledge of community locations and purposes, building and sustaining long-term relationships
- Knowledge of types of transportation and time management of public or private transportation schedules
- Recreation and leisure skills needed to create healthy lifestyles and develop and sustain healthy relationships
Social-Emotional
- Integration of functional communication skills and emotional regulation skills at home and in the community
Community Connections
- Day programs, Developmental Pathways, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, and other related services
Locations
The Bridge Program is located in five buildings throughout the Douglas County School District: three classes in Parker, three classes in Lone Tree, five classes in Highlands Ranch, one class at the Legacy Campus, and one class at UC Health.
